The art of taking plant cuttings

Instead of buying new plants or raising them from seed we can continue to propagate new plants through soft cuttings. We will learn the principles and techniques for taking and nurturing plant cuttings. This is a free workshop for volunteers and suggested voluntary donation for non-volunteers is £2-£5. Plant drawing workshop

Exploring our relationships with plants through drawing, mark making and observation. No experience is needed. The aim is not to make perfect plant drawings but to enjoy the process of connecting with nature and being creative. Some art materials will be provided and you can also bring your own. Community Activity Day: Planting a wild foraging hedgerow

Join our first community activity day on 6 April 11am to 3pm to help us plant saplings donated from the Woodland Trust. We will create a foraging and nesting hedgerow for wildlife and birds, which will become an attractive border for our site. This day is open to everyone. Herbal remedy making: cough syrup

Herbal cough syrups can be made using different bases including glycerine, honey and sugar. Medical Herbalist , Melissa Ronaldson, will be demonstrating how to make the special soothing cough syrup recipe that Herbalists Without Borders have been distributing at refugee camps in Northern France. Participants will have an opportunity to make their own cough syrup from culinary ingredients and plants growing at Forest Farm Peace Garden. Please bring a clean medium-sized glass jar with a lid.

Permablitz: Planting a native forest garden

Permablitz: Planting a native forest garden

Come and join us for the third permablitz to implement a project funded by ‘Grow Wild’ (Royal Botanic Gardens Kew) to create an area of forest garden to showcase edible, wildlife-friendly plants that have been growing in Britain since ancient times. We will be preparing the soil and doing a lot of planting, some from seed. We’ll also be setting up a shelter area with trellis for native climbers. 

Mini-workshops will cover ‘what are native plants?’, an explanation of Forest Farm Peace Garden’s forest garden design and this new area being established and ’the best way to establish new plants through their first year'. 

A lunch of soup, bread and snacks will be provided. You are welcome to bring snacks to share.

Our annual autumn event to celebrate our apple harvest and mark World Mental Health Day. Join us for wellbeing and art activities, workshops, therapies, children’s activities, craft and produce stalls, apple juice pressing, hot food and cakes. Free entry, donations welcome.

Workshop programme:

Introduction to forest gardening and UK native plants; herbal balm making; wild food foraging with the history and folklore of apples; nature connection and wellbeing; recycled art & craft making; learn to knit or crochet.

Learn to make simple kitchen herbal remedies

Learn how to make your own home remedy from the medicinal plants growing all around us, with Melissa Ronaldson, Medical Herbalist. You will learn how to extract plant chemicals into honey or cider vinegar and adapt recipes for your own use. This is a free event.

World Music Day Summer Picnic

This year we are hosting our annual summer event as part of The Great Get Together – the UK-wide weekend event for communities to get together, in memory of Jo Cox, to celebrate all that we have in common. Simple food fermentation workshop

Give your gut-biome a boost this spring! Yes, that’s the amazing ecosystem of micro-organisms that you’re carrying around in your digestive tract. Regularly consuming fermented foods can really help to get those friendly-bacteria multiplying. One of our buddies, Vicky, will be sharing some simple sauerkraut recipes with us.
