Twilight Bat Watching Walk

Join our experienced guide as we walk through the garden looking for bats in the night sky. There will also be a chance to spot newts in the pond and uncover lizards as they sleep.

Please arrive between 6.45 and 7pm ready to start the walk at 7.15pm

We will start the evening with a hunt for lizards as they go to sleep for the night, looking under object where they might be hiding.

We will then take a slow walk aroung the garden on the lookout for bats. You can even lean how to use the specialist detectors . Our guide will be on hand for any questions you may have.

We will then take a look in the pond using powerful torches to see if we can spot any newts.

Hot drinks will be available before the walk. Please wrap up warm and wear shoes appropriate for a very muddy garden.

Supervised children are welcome

Happier Outdoors

Our event is a chance for the local community, NHS staff, social prescribers and anyone else interested in ecotherapy. Autumn foraging talk and tour

In this hands on workshop you will get a talk and tour of the wild plants in our beautiful Peace Garden as well as some background info and practical tips and practice of foraging so that you can go home and find edible plants near where you live.

You will learn how to do an edibility test and how to keep both yourself, and the ecology, safe whilst foraging. As well as key features and tools to identify some edible plants we will also talk about how the different seasons and landscapes affect foraging.

Before the end of the day you will have foraged and prepared some of your own wild food and learnt about the uses of different plants, methods for preparing them, and recipes you can try at home.

There will be tea, foraged herbal tea, biscuits and forage nibbles available at the lunch break. Please also bring your own packed lunch. Please come wearing clothes suitable for the weather and sturdy shoes.

Outdoor Yoga Nidra

Join us for a morning of relaxation and rejuvenation with our Outdoor Yoga Nidra event. This is the perfect opportunity to unwind and connect with nature in the tranquil surroundings of the Forest Farm Peace Garden.

The event will take place on Friday22 September at 11am at Hazelbrouck Gardens, Hainault, IG6 2XL.

Our experienced yoga instructor will guide you through this deep relaxation practice known as Yoga Nidra. This practice is designed to help you release tension and stress, reduce anxiety and promote a deep sense of relaxation and better sleep.

Afterward you will be treated to some nibbles and drinks made from Forest Farm Peace Garden produce.

No prior yoga experience is necessary. All levels are welcome to join. Please bring your own yoga mat (if you have one) and a blanket to cover yourself and wear comfortable clothing. Also bring an eye mask if you have one. If you don't have these use what you have at home, maybe a picnic blanket to lie on and some some towels.

Summer Pruning Workshop

Learn the why, when and how of summer pruning and caring for fruit trees in this hands on pruning workshop. The workshop will be packed with practical tips for how to care for and prune your fruit trees to maximize their yield and health. You will learn why, when, and how to make your cuts and what tools to use.


On our beautiful community site at Forest Farm Peace Garden we grow 90+ different varieties of fruit trees including apples, pears, quinces, medlars, mulberries, cherries and plums. The workshop includes an optional tour of our fruit collection, plenty of time for questions and a chance to get some practice in with guidance from our experienced fruit growers. 

You will also have the chance to leave with some fruit you have picked, a handout with a summary of all the basic pruning information, and most likely a lifted mood after a day of fun in nature with other people.


The workshop is suitable for beginners and those with more experience.
If you plan to stay for the whole day, please bring a packed lunch. Hot drinks and biscuits provided. Please bring a pruning saw if you have one and wear sturdy footwear.

Time Fri 25th Aug:

11am-1pm All the summer pruning basics plus a chance to prune a tree.

1pm-2pm Lunch.

2pm-3.30pm More time for hands-on practice/harvesting, a garden tour of fruit trees, and a closer look at more nuanced pruning advice eq to do with the time of year, and the type, age and physiology of the tree.

Forest Farm Peace Garden is proud to be part of the Orchard Projects series of Orchard blitzes. For this Orchard Blitz at Forest Farm Peace Garden activities will include rediscovering some hidden areas of the Peace Garden site, weeding, mulching, managing stakes, pruning and hopefully some early apple harvesting!

There will also be an orchard tree ID tour of nearly 100 trees on out site and you will learn how to identify 15 different types of fruit and nut trees by their leaves and branches.

Natural Dye Making Workshop

Come along to this workshop to learn about botanic dyeing using plants that you’ll be able to see growing in Forest Farm Peace Garden. You will be able to dye a silk scarf with beautiful colours that you can take away with you.

Industrial dyeing of fabrics uses dyes derived from oil, a process which produces wastewater that is polluting to humans and wildlife.

Susannah Hall from Permablitz London has been using natural dyes for 15 years. You can find her on @ecosaztastic.

This is a free workshop for volunteers and it is open to visitors who do not volunteer in the garden who are asked to contribute a £5 - £10 donation towards the costs.
